Jacky Tranter

Jacky Tranter is a girl I've known for years who recently started doing photography with her group of friends in the Woodbridge/Richmond, Virginia area. One of my favorite things about her photography is that even though she uses friends it doesn't matter because she easily disguises them in the majority of her photographs.

This image is of two friends named Sami and Wyatt. They are ALWAYS diong this. Layin around and doing art and things like that and Jacky found a way to make it so interesting. I love the way she framed this room and included the window. I love the angle that it was taken from.

This image always cracks me up. The girl on the right is Samantha Henri. In the background, I believe, is Jamie Woll. But again the composition is awesome and its just her friends hanging out again but the masks make it so much more interesting especially since they're not the same and they aren't doing the same thing.

UArts Photography Alumni

Celeste Giuliano

Celeste Giuliano is a studio photographer and she is also the photo editor for Philidelphia weelely newspaper. She specializes in photography like the two photos seen above aka "pin-up portraiture." However, not all of her work is this comical. I was initially drawn in because of how silly these photos are but when I saw the website I saw some portraits that were actually rather classy.

Michael Persico!!!

Uhh this guys photography is so random. What this tells me, is that he takes photographs based on the bands. Yo...I love it. And the second one is hilarious. What the hell is going on? The third one I picked because I've always wanted to use newspapers and never actually have so I'm glad someone did it well! Uhh he also does portraits, food, and fashion. So those who like this shtuff should check out teh link :)

Lou Caltabiano
failed artist statement.
See shower series. The artist statement says he's going to use different ages and sizes to show that everyone is equal blah blah like we all try to do. All I see is hipsters.

SAM TAYLOR WOOD

Sam Taylor-Wood, Escape Artist

Sam Taylor-Wood, Bram Stoker's Chair III

Sam Taylor-Wood is a British photographer who does mostly self portraits which she describes as "dancing in the air." Even though they are about herself and her health she distorts her face. I was drawn to these photographs for the spiritual sense I got from looking through a book.

JUSTINE KURLAND

I chose this photographer because of her titles. This artist is one who does something very similar to me in that she titles her photographs to give them a very specific meaning. Sometimes the titles are from sentences in books and her photographs are always narratives. The second photograph is not a film still but was taken as a movie was being shot(Badlands).

Fashion Photography! I chose the first image because it just makes me think of how many times we try to get this photograph and how she actually did it. I think both of these are so successful! The connection between the models and the photographer is so present and as the viewer it feels like you could be in the middle of a conversation with either of them. The expression on their faces where it's still candid looking even though they're looking at the camera is something I've always been a fan of.

Rebekka Guðleifsdóttir

I am in love.
These are self portraits by Rebekka Guðleifsdóttir, and this is exactly why I'm moving to Iceland in 6 years. I've never looked at a photographers work and almost felt their spirit like I did when I saw these. AND its not even just the self portraits that make me feel that. All of her work is incredible (she also makes sweaters and drawings!) and gives off this ghostly impression even though it isn't all surreal.

This woman!

Okay. If I keep going I'll never stop but I highly suggest that Deedee and Leah check this woman out! Her name is linked at the top.

From blog
ANE BRUN AND GIRL TALK

Ane Brun. You go girl!

Girl Talk. Mashing it up.

I've been really focused on promotional photography lately. I can't even really explain it but just the feeling I get when I see a photograph that completely defines a musician is amazing. The first photograph here is of Ane Brun. This artist is super indie. Happy music! This portrait just fits so well. Especially the black and white because if it had high saturation I don't think it would be as defining of her style. However in the second photograph, of Girl Talk, the photographer uses color in a way that works for this music. Girl Talk is a DJ style band that mixes songs from every genre to make diverse songs that come together into one. The basketball and the flowers define this.
I don't know the photographer for either, I just found these on someones blog who talks about music they like and bands they want to see and the link is above.
